A
Chocolate bar filled with bubbles. Aero
was introduced in the North of England
in 1935 as the ‘new chocolate’
and proved so popular that sales were
extended throughout the UK by the end
of the same year. Aero
was originally going to be called Airways
to reflect the vogue for jet travel
in the 1930s when it was launched. By
1936, Aero had reached New York. It
was one of the first products promoted
by Rowntree primarily on the strength
of the brand, rather than the company
name. Aero’s
success comes from its unique bubbly
texture. From the first television advertising
campaigns screened during the 1950s,
the secret bubbly formula has proved
the lynchpin for many adversting campagins. |

Ahlgren's
Bilar
(translation:
Ahlgren's Cars)
Chewy Candy |
|
| Description: |
  |
The
product still most closely associated
with the brand Ahlgren is Ahlgrens
bilar ("Ahlgren's Cars"),
sold since 1953 and marketed as "the
world's most sold car" (which
is possibly technically correct, by
number of cars).
The
small, mildly mint-tasting marshmallow
cars are so popular within Sweden
that stores that specifically cater
Swedish tourists and residents in
other countries have started selling
them as well. In recent years the
brand has been extended to other car
and road related products, liquorice
car tyres and sour road signs, the
latter including the elk warning signs
beloved by German tourists.

Airheads
Chewy
Candy
|
|
| Description: |
   |
Airheads
are a popular candy manufactured by
Perfetti Van Melle in Erlanger, Kentucky.
They are a taffy-like candy that come
individually wrapped in strips and
weigh about 15.6 grams.
Airheads
come in a variety of flavors including
cherry, watermelon, white mystery,
green apple, strawberry, blue raspberry,
and orange and sour versions as well.
There
are also other special edition flavors,
including a SpongeBob flavor and a
Spiderman flavor. Perfetti Van Melle
sometimes produces limited edition
flavors as part of promotions in partnership
with other companies, such as Disney/Pixar's
new movie, Cars. Airheads also come
in fruit rolls, known as Airheads
Xtremes.
Some
people believe that the flavor White
Mystery comes in different flavors
such as cherry, watermelon, etc. The
flavor of the White Mystery Airhead
changes from time to time.
This
Airhead brand also comes in rainbow
belts, from boxes of candy strips
quite different from the orginial.
Flavors include strawberry.
Much
like separating the two pieces of
an Oreo cookie, a popular yet unorthodox
way to eat an airhead is to hold one
end of the package with ones fingers
and flap the rest of the candy back
and forth. This will eventually force
all of the candy into one end of the
package, making it easier to eat in
one bite.
When
a person first bites an airhead it
may seem hard. But soon, it will become
as soft as bubble gum.

Andes
Chocolate Mints
Chocolate
Snack
|
|
| Description: |
  |
Flat
pieces of chocolate covered mint candy.
Originally
founded in 1921, Andy's Candies produced
a variety of boxed chocolates, which
were sold on the store premises. As
the business grew over the years,
a factory was built and the name changed
to Andes Candies.
In
1950, the Crème de Menthe candy
piece was added to the Andes stores'
product line. This three-layer mint
has remained the foundation of the
brand and today is the #1 After Dinner
Mint on the market.
Over
the years Andes has expanded to include
a variety flavors and packages including
the popular Cherry Jubilee, Mint Parfait
and Toffee Crunch Thins. Andes Crème
de Menthe flavor can be found in a
number of different packages including
our new 14 pc. convenience pack and
larger 25¢ piece.
Recently,
Andes has become a well-known ingredient
in many items. Many retailers across
the country are stocking Andes Crème
de Menthe Ice Cream, Cake Rolls and
Cookies. In the fall of 2003, Andes
Crème de Menthe Baking Chips
were introduced. These chips have
the same great taste as traditional
Andes and maintain our famous 3-layer
design.

This
candy, consisting of a grain of aniseed
coated in sugar, is perhaps the oldest
in France. Mentioned in a document
as early as 872.
In
the 17th century, when the candy was
manufactured by Ursuline sisters,
six months were needed to add and
dry the successive coats of sugar.
Today,
the factory is still situated at the
heart of the ancient abbey, but the
process is completed in only 15 days.

ANZAC
Cookies
& Cakes
|
|
| Description: |
    |
ANZAC Biscuits are
a snack food most commonly made from
the primary ingredients of rolled
oats, coconut, and golden syrup.
Many myths surround
the origin of the ANZAC Biscuits.
It has been reported that these biscuits
were made by Australian and New Zealand
women for the Australian and New Zealand
Army Corps (ANZAC) soldiers during
World War I and were reputedly first
called "Soldiers' Biscuits"
then renamed "ANZAC Biscuits"
after the Gallipoli landing.
The recipe was reportedly
created to ensure the biscuits would
keep well during naval transportation
to loved ones who were fighting overseas.
However, those biscuits were shaped
more like rock cakes and were made
from entirely different ingredients.
Research carried out
by Professor Helen Leach, a culinary
anthropologist at Otago University
in New Zealand, revealed that the
first time the name "ANZAC"
appeared in the name of the biscuit
in a recipe book was in 1921. That
occurred in the renaming of the "oatmeal
biscuit" recipe to "ANZAC
crispies", in the ninth edition
of the St Andrew's Cookery Book. Subsequent
editions renamed this to be "ANZAC
Biscuits".
Exactly the same recipe
was included in contemporary recipe
books as "rolled oats biscuits",
(and none of these recipes included
coconut - not until 1927). The oatmeal
or rolled oats biscuits were developed
in the Scottish-influenced city of
Dunedin as a variation of Scottish
oat cakes.
Today, the ANZAC Biscuits
are manufactured commercially for
retail sale because of their military
connection with the ANZACs and ANZAC
Day. These biscuits are often used
as a fundraising item for the RSA
and the RSL veterans organisations.
ANZAC Biscuits made using the traditional
recipe are also carried by bush-bashers
(bushwalkers) as a food of last resort;
due to their tough constitution and
good keeping properties enabling these
biscuits to survive many days of rough
travel.
The term ANZAC is
protected under Australian law and
therefore the word should not be used
without permission from the Returned
Services League (RSL), and its misuse
can be legally enforced, particularly
for commercial purposes. There is
a general exemption granted for ANZAC
Biscuits, as long as these biscuits
remain basically true to the original
recipe and are both referred to and
sold as ANZAC Biscuits and never as
cookies.
ANZAC Biscuits can
still to this day be found in Australian
CR1M military ration packs.
