Garibaldi
Cookies
& Cakes |
|
| Description: |
  |
The Garibaldi biscuit
consists of currants squashed between
two thin, rectangular biscuits - a
currant sandwich.
A very 'adult' biscuit
pleasure, usually avoided by children
who think it looks like fly-paper.
Popular
with British consumers as a snack
for nearly 150 years, the Garibaldi
biscuit is conventionally consumed
with a beverage such as tea or coffee,
into which it may be dunked in informal
social settings.
The
Garibaldi biscuit was named after
Giuseppe Garibaldi, an Italian general
and leader of the fight to unify Italy,
who made a popular visit to England.
It was first manufactured by the Bermondsey
biscuit company Peek Freans in 1861
following the recruitment of one of
the great biscuit makers of Scotland,
John Carr.

Gingersnaps (also
knows as ginger biscuits are a popular
type of snack food, and are often
referred to as ginger nuts in the
UK. They are biscuits/cookies flavoured
with powdered ginger, anise, and other
spices.
They are sold and
made worldwide and have a long history,
probably dating back to medieval fairs.
They generally measure 5cm (two inches)
in diameter.
In the United States,
gingersnaps are generally round drop
cookies, usually between 1/8- and
1/4-inch thick, with prominent cracks
in the top surface.
Scandinavian gingersnaps,
also called ginger thins or pepparkakor,
are rolled quite thin (often under
1/8-inch thick), and cut into shapes;
they have smooth tops, and are usually
somewhat crisper (and in some cases,
more strongly flavoured) than the
American version.

Goo
Goo Cluster
Chocolate Snack |
|
| Description: |
  |
Goo
Goo® Clusters... one of the original
candy bars. They are made of milk
chocolate, peanuts, caramel and marshmallow
in a 1.75 ounce bar.
History
In
1901, Howell Campbell, a Tennessee
candy maker, founded the Standard
Candy Company in Nashville. Originally
located on 1st Avenue in downtown
Nashville, Mr. Campbell, a 19 year-old
entrepreneur, had big dreams for his
new candy company.
His
philosophy was simple: use only the
finest, most wholesome ingredients
combined with time, care and experience
to make confections of outstanding
richness and flavor. The business
soon grew into a flourishing family
enterprise that became known throughout
the area for its delicious assortment
of high-quality confections.
The
first products sold by the company
were hard candies and chocolates.
Mr. Campbell's most well known candy,
the Goo Goo Cluster, was a completely
new and revolutionary candy invention.
In
1912, "America's 1st Combination
Candy Bar" was developed. Howell
Campbell was the very first confectioner
to make a candy bar with multiple
ingredients (i.e. with more than just
solid milk chocolate).
He
made Goo Goo Clusters by combining
peanuts, caramel, marshmallow and
milk chocolate together into a deliciously
round cluster. Goo Goos were originally
sold unwrapped in big glass candy
jars. People loved the delicious new
concoction and Goo Goo Clusters soon
became the company's best selling
product.
There
are many variations as to how the
Goo Goo Cluster got its name, but
the actual story goes like this. Mr.
Howell Campbell used to ride a streetcar
to work everyday. Soon after he developed
his delicious new confection, word
spread quickly about his tasty treat.
People didn't know how to ask for
or what to call this confectionery
delight. Mr. Campbell was extremely
excited that his newest concoction
was the talk of the town, but even
he, himself was baffled as to what
to call his latest creation.
One
day Mr. Campbell was discussing his
dilemma with a fellow passenger on
the way to work. The lady passenger,
a school teacher, remarked that the
candy bar is "So Good, People
Will Ask For It From Birth!"
Thinking about what the woman said,
Mr. Campbell recalled the first sounds
his newborn son made; Goo Goo!
Goo
Goo Clusters were officially a hit
and to promote his new Goo Goo Cluster
candy bars, Mr. Campbell advertised
them as "A Nourishing Lunch For
a Nickel!" Obviously times have
certainly changed from the 1920's
and 30's!
Parents
of today wouldn't be too happy with
their youngsters if they just ate
candy bars for lunch. But back during
the time of the depression, Goo Goos
were a great value for the many folks
that didn't have much money. Times
change and so have prices, But Goo
Goos still represent one of the best
candy bar values available today!

Green
& Black's Organic Caramel
Chocolate Bar
|
|
| Description: |
    |
|
Although
popular, caramel is often perceived
to be too sweet. The Green & Black
solution was to make a classic caramel
and blend it with cocoa-rich milk chocolate
and add a pinch or two of sea salt to
cut through the sweetness. Only then
could it be filled into a shell made
from a darker shade of milk chocolate.

Almond
Chocolate Bar
|
|
| Description: |
  |
|
Green
& Black take whole organic roasted
Sicilian almonds with their skins left
on, and caramelise them to intensify
their flavour. The caramelisation further
toasts the nut giving it a deeper, nuttier,
more savoury flavour & creates a
slightly sweet, crisp shell. They take
time to enhance the flavour of the almonds
in this way so they balance the intensity
of the bittersweet dark chocolate.

& Black's Organic Mint
Chocolate Bar |
|
| Description: |
    |
The
freshness of mint, whilst wonderfully
clean and invigorating, can overpower
other flavours when they are combined.
For this reason, the goal for the
mint bar was to achieve the correct
ratio of dark chocolate shell to mint
fondant filling. We hope you agree
that neither the chocolate nor the
mint dominate, but instead complement
each other perfectly.
