Red Vines is a brand of candy manufactured by the American Licorice Company of Chicago, Illinois. Red Vines red twists, sometimes known generically as 'red licorice' resemble American black licorice except that they are red and do not have flavor extracted from the roots of the liquorice plant.

Red Vines red twists appear very similar to Twizzlers candy, but are rounder, chewier and slightly lighter in color. The taste is also sweeter and somewhat richer than that of a Twizzler.

The American Licorice Company also offers black licorice twists under the Red Vines brand, as well as fruit flavored twists.

Red Vines originated in the Western United States, although today it can be found nationwide.

It is also popular overseas, notably in Macedonia, where the majority of the world's licorice is harvested. According to the American Licorice Company, Red Vines candy is "the number one non-chocolate confection in the West."

Reese's Pieces are a peanut butter-flavored candy manufactured by The Hershey Company.

They are circular in shape, and covered in candy shells that are colored yellow, orange, and brown. Because of this coloring, Reese's Pieces are commonly used in autumn themes (for decoration, promotion, etc.)

They can be purchased in plastic packets, cardboard boxes (Canada), or cup-shaped travel containers. The candy was first introduced in 1978, and launched throughout the United States in 1980.

Reese's Pieces are a product extension of the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups line: this new product was designed to capitalize on the success of the chocolate-covered peanut butter cups.

One of the signature sundaes at the American casual dining restaurant chain Friendly's is the 'Reese's Pieces Sundae', a large dessert consisting of vanilla or chocolate ice cream, hot fudge, peanut butter, marshmallow fluff, and topped with chocolate sprinkles, Reese's Pieces, and a cherry.

The candies were first manufactured using the panning machines that were left over from the failed "Hershey-ets" project. Designers knew that they wanted a peanut-flavored candy, but had some problems with the filling. Original plans called for filling the candy shells with peanut butter, but the oil leaked out into the shell, leaving it soft and soggy.

The developer of the project turned the problem over to a team of outside scientists who created a peanut-flavored sugar filling called penuche. More experimentation was needed to determine the correct thickness of the shell. Finally, the color of the candy coating was designed to coordinate with the color of the Reese's package.

While listed among the "chocolate-based" candies and relying upon the success of the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, Reese's Pieces do not actually contain chocolate or anything chocolate tasting.
